I’ve been thinking about getting my day skipper certification. The RYA courses you have to take aren’t supposed to be that tough, and I usually enjoy schooling. A friend of mine took them a few years ago, and she said it was a lot of fun. I’m sure it was difficult at times, but that would be true with any sailing courses. I have to confess that I’m very excited about the whole thing, and I honestly can’t wait to get started.
A day skipper license can actually open a few career doors for you, and it also gives you the confidence to feel at home in the sea. There is a lot more to yachting than people realize. Accidents happen all the time, and if you can’t spot bad weather, or navigate rough seas, you shouldn’t be out on the ocean. Effective sailing courses, like the RYA courses, will help you do that. After I finish my studies, I should be able to handle any basic sailing situation with ease.
Once I become a day skipper, I can see myself doing a lot of sailing. I’ve always had a love for the ocean, but it seems so dangerous out there. I’ve felt that I would need to take some kind of sailing courses to get my confidence up. An effective sailor can always feel comfortable when they’re out at sea, but without taking the RYA courses, I’m not sure I would have that kind of confidence.
